The Dangers of Trampolines…

Filed under: Uncategorized — JaNae @ 1:36 pm

Our poor little Jaycee broke her leg last week on the neighbor’s trampoline. :(   Since everyone is asking about it, I thought I would post the story.

She has been non-stop playing outside and loving the spring weather. She also is becoming fast friends with our neighbors behind us, Adam and Emma. So on Thursday night she hopped over the fence to jump on the trampoline with them. I was inside cleaning up dinner when I heard Jaycee screaming at the top of her lungs. I ran outside and she was crying. Sarah, our neighbor tried to hand her over the fence to me, but Jaycee didn’t want that, so I ran around the block to meet them on the corner. Jaycee didn’t stop crying all night, but since it was already 7:00 she fell asleep. I was thinking maybe she had sprained her leg or pulled a muscle or something.

In the morning she woke up crying and would not get out of bed. She said her leg still hurt and she couldn’t move. I tried to touch her leg and she screamed, so I told her we better go to the doctor. She looked straight at me and said, “it doesn’t hurt anymore. It’s okay”. I knew she just didn’t want to go to the doctor so I told her if her leg was better she needed to stand up and walk. “I can’t because I am too tired” she said. I tried to touch her leg again and she screamed as soon as I did. So, off to the doc for us.

Here is Jaycee with her broken leg...

She actually fractured the growth plate on her lower femur just above the knee. She’s also somehow damaged a muscle below her knee and her right leg is more than twice the size of the left leg.

She is in a splint for now, and we will see the Orthopedic on Wednesday afternoon. Until then she has to keep her leg completely supported.  Although she loves arts and crafts, she has already burned through a billion of them and is bored.

She enjoyed visits from Aunt Margaret, Aunt Tammy and Emily, and Grandma Wales, as well as Uncle Jeff – and of course she loves the many gifts she was given.

Rylee of course got gifts too... and she had to copy Jaycee laying around with her feet up.

The best part for her was getting to go to church in a wagon on Sunday. She thought that was pretty neat. Rylee thought it was cool too. We tried to take them on a walk in the wagon, but it was too rough and Jaycee’s leg hurt too much for it.  :(

More Easter and Springtime:

from-camera-0031

After church on Easter the girls finally got their Easter Baskets.  It was a long wait because by the time we got home from the Whettons’ house it was about 2:30.  They loved their baskets. I had hid them and thought it would take them a while to find them but Jaycee came right in the house and asked for it, I told her I would get the camera and next thing I knew she was holding it.  I’ll have to do a better job next year. lol.

Soon after they found their baskets the Schimpf family came to visit. We love hanging out with them and Brianna and Brooklyn are our girls’ best friends.  They wanted to have another Easter Egg hunt, so we quickly hid some eggs around in the yard for them.  As Janette and I were hiding the eggs the little boy that lives behind us, Adam, was peeking through the fence and kept asking “Can’t you hide those over here?” and then proudly telling me he knew where some of the eggs were hidden. It was funny.

They  had a lot of fun finding the eggs. Well, except maybe Brooklyn. She was more interested in the slide and the only egg in her basket at the end of the hunt had been put there by Rylee.  She is adorable!

Springtime!

We’ve been having so much fun with the spring weather!  The girls have loved playing outside, and especially love riding their bikes. Rylee got a new bike this year and this is really the first time with her hips that she has been able to ride by herself and she is loving every minute of it!

We also got to celebrate Grandma Wales’ birthday by taking her out to Texas Roadhouse.  I was a little disappointed that she wouldn’t sit on the sadle for her birthday song, but given the knee and hip replacements, I guess we’ll give her a break this time.

Easter and Springtime

Easter and Springtime

Yes, I realize I am posting Easter quite late, but it’s been a busy week. I wanted to do it on Monday but we left our camera at Craig’s sister’s house, so that didn’t happen.

Easter was wonderful and the girls absolutely loved it.  We spent the week with Easter crafts, an Easter party with Jaycee’s preschool friends, and geared up for the big Easter Weekend.

FRIDAY

Friday night we kicked off Easter weekend with a Flashlight Egg Hunt. This has been our family tradition for the past three years, but this year we missed our good friends in Columbia who were too far away to join us.  This year we were joined by some of Craig’s family – Christie and her cute little boy Carter, and Sarah and Bryon and their three boys Jayden, Ammon, and Parker. Kathy and Kiera came as well.  It was a great time!

Here they are lined up and ready to hunt!  On your mark, get set, Go!

They got quite a loot!

SATURDAY

Saturday was a busy and fun-filled day.  We started out with an Easter Egg hunt at the grocery store. This was very disappointing. I remember doing these when I was a kid, and we used to run around the whole store looking for eggs that were placed amongst the groceries – it was a lot of fun.  Now days it was much different. They just had one aisle blocked off and all they did was throw shredded paper on top of pieces of candy. Oh well, the kids still had a little fun.

Then, all 3 of us girls got haircuts – thanks Linz!

This was Rylee’s first “real” cut –I’ve always trimmed it but she hasn’t had anyone else cut it, and as you can see she was not happy about it.

We also had a great time “egging” Margaret’s car with paper eggs and goodies – with Tammy, Emily, and Lindsay’s help.

Then we spent the evening coloring eggs and watching the new Velvitine Rabbit movie.

EASTER SUNDAY

And the moment the girls have been waiting for for three long weeks…. They finally get to wear their Easter dresses!

We were able to go to Craig’s sister’s church to see his nephew Chris speak – he just returned from a mission to the Republica Dominicana.  It was nice spending time with the family there and having lunch with them all afterward. Oh, AND we ran into Elder Fagenburg from our old ward in South Carolina! It was fun to see him there serving a mission in Utah!

Here are some more pics of the girls in their dresses…

~ Weekend In Saint George ~

Filed under: Uncategorized — JaNae @ 7:46 pm

This past weekend our family was able to enjoy some much needed R&R in sunny Saint George. Although we didn’t do anything particularly too excited, we had a wonderful time hiking, swimming, and just hanging out together.

We stayed in a beautiful resort that was great to hang out in – with plenty to do including pool, hot tub, rec room, swings and slides, and space to relax. My sister’s family came too (Janette, Tom, Brianna, and Brooklyn). We always have a great time together. Jaycee and Brianna are only 10 days apart, and Brooklyn and Rylee are 4 months apart.

Our family visiting the Saint George Temple. It was a lot of fun learning about the missionary work in the area and I was surprised to hear they have so many visitors. Last year they had visitors from 93 nations at the temple last month received over 250 requests for a book of mormon to be delivered. I thought that was pretty cool.  The kids enjoyed visiting the temple grounds and loved the little movies we watched.

We went hiking in Snow Canyon. I love the red rock, and it was cool to see the petrified sand dunes, butterflies, and lava rock.

All of the little girls enjoyed visiting The Entrada where High School Musical 2 was filmed. Because it is a private club we couldn’t go inside, but they actually have a protocol for visitors who want to see where the movie was filmed. We were able to look over the fence. Haha. But still the girls thought it was pretty dang cool.

We also had a lot of fun hanging out at the resort swimming, swinging, and building sand castles in the play box.

The Adventures of Peep…

img_6666-640x480

Tom and his strange mind decided it would be fun to take one of our snack foods, a marshmallow peep to enjoy our vacation festivities with us. Peep enjoyed hiking and here he is relaxing and having a great time at the resort….

Peep almost had a fateful end, but luckily he was spared to enjoy the rest of his vacation with the next family at the resort.

April Fools

Filed under: Uncategorized — JaNae @ 7:10 pm

April fools can be a fun holiday. My favorite part (and the only thing I did this year) was our April fools FOOD tradition. We have banana splits for breakfast, and breakfast for dinner. Yumm!!!

img_6610-640x480

I had to go to a meeting this morning, so I missed them waking up and eating their breakfast, but Grandma and Grandpa helped them. I think they had more fun making the banana splits than the did eating them.

img_6609-640x480

They fixed nice banana splits, but then hardly ate any of them. Jaycee ate all of the strawberries off the top and kept asking for more, but didn’t eat the ice cream. Rylee didn’t really eat any of it.  Go figure. You let your kids have ice cream for breakfast you’d think they would take advantage of the situation!

Baby Love

I just couldn’t resist posting sweet little Rylee and her baby cousing MabelAnne. Baby Mabel was blessed in our Ward over the weekend and spent the rest of the day at the house with us. Rylee followed her around all day. She held her, kissed her, and absolutely loved her. She kept telling me “I’m gonna take care of the baby, mama”. It was so sweet.

img_0495-640x480

I’m sure with all of this baby love she will be happy to hear she has 4 other cousins on the way!
